Viking Airport Equipment is based in Bacup, near Manchester, United Kingdom, where its head office and production and assembly facilities are located. Viking is part of SMA Group, alongside SACO Airport Equipment and THIEL Storage & Handling Systems. The group is headquartered in Mierlo, near Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
Viking designs and manufactures container dollies, pallet dollies and baggage trailers for airport apron operations. The wider range includes equipment for ULD handling and storage, supporting the movement of baggage, containers and cargo pallets across airport operations.
A container dolly transports ULD containers, with compatibility depending on the model. A pallet dolly handles aircraft cargo pallets and, on selected models, ULD containers. A baggage trailer carries loose passenger baggage. Viking offers different configurations and load capacities for each application.
Start with the type, dimensions and weight of the load you need to transport. For container and pallet dollies, check ULD compatibility, load capacity, deck configuration and loading direction. For baggage trailers, consider load capacity and access during loading and unloading. Vikingโs team can help you select a model based on your operational requirements.
Safety features vary by model and include tow bar operated parking brakes, container stops, pallet restraints and visibility markings. The CD-428 and CD-728 also feature automatic wedge stops, a pedal operated locking and quick release system, and Vikingโs Red Zone concept to discourage walking between trailers. At London Heathrow Airport (LHR), Viking Airport Equipment has supplied a major global ground handling company with an initial order of 160 CD-428 dollies. The feedback from users has been very positive. Ramp operatives and management from LHR were involved in the design process of the bespoke dollies, which made the project exciting for all parties involved. The involvement of ramp staff in the design, manufacturing, and delivery of the dollies has instilled pride in the equipment and its performance.
